BC New Legislation for Power of Attorney

B.C. has enacted new legislation for Power Of Attorney(POA) that will come into effect on September 1, 2011.  After that time, you will not be able to get a simple enduring POA drafted.

Because we are going to a more complex system, this will have several legal implications, but importantly for you, the documents will be more expensive.  Currently, the rate is approx. between $100 to $125.  It will likely be more like $300 after September 1, 2011.

Do I need a POA?

A power of attorney gives someone else authority to make financial decisions on your behalf.

It is especially useful to deal with Vancouver land title office matters if you are away or unable to sign documents yourself. IE/ to renew your real estate mortgage, or deal with a sale or purchase of B.C. real estate or estate planning.
